The large Penthouse is equally colorful, with a vivid orange bed covering, red rug, yellow chairs, and purple runners on the dresser and desk. The seven-room, upper-middle-range Red Tree House is a bed-and-breakfast housed in a converted 1930s residence with a warm and inviting charm. The Chilpancingo metro stop is four blocks away, a seven-minute walk, and makes moving about the city much easier. Destinations like the Zona Rosa are 15 minutes away by metro (a 25-minute walk), while downtown (home to sights like the Museo de Bellas Artes) is 30 minutes away by metro. I loved all the artwork in the hotel and particularly enjoyed the happy hour, getting to know a few of the other guests. Each of the contemporary rooms are individually decorated and have names such as Lafayette, Milagritos, and Amigos. Furniture and bold artwork are modern and chic, and rooms have attractive wood or stone-tiled floors and on-trend wall colors like slate gray and mustard yellow. Rooms range in size and style, but all have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and mini-fridges. Some rooms, like the Penthouse and Lafayette, also have full kitchens and balconies. While all rooms also have ceiling fans, none are air-conditioned.

Location was great - within walking distance to create restaurants and bars. Mexico City is so affordable with the Peso at 17/18 and many nice places to stay safely. Craig and his co-owner partner, Jorge, want all their guests to feel like they’re staying with friends (something other Red Tree House, Mexico City, reviews also point out).

The Living Room is a cozy place to unwind on the sofa and chairs in front of a fireplace in front of the player piano, with the hotel's resident dog, Abril, underfoot. As young children aren't allowed, the hotel appeals to mature couples and solo travelers looking for a quiet place to relax. The Red Tree House is not just a hotel--it is an experience. Our room was comfortable, quiet and spacious, and the location is excellent. In our relatively short stay, we met lots of interesting and lovely people, mostly retirees from the US. We have traveled extensively throughout the world (especially in Latin America), the RTH is probably our favorite. The Red Tree House is housed in a residence built in the 1930s that has reputedly hosted artists and writers over the years.

The Red Tree House is situated in Condesa, a lovely residential neighborhood with tree-lined streets that are packed with shops, cafes, galleries, parks, and bars. It's one of the city's trendier districts and borders the equally hip Roma neighborhood. Chapultepec Park is a 20 minute stroll from the hotel (10 minutes by car or taxi) and is home to the city's zoo, Museum of Modern Art, and Museum of Anthropology.

This is the only place I'll stay in Mexico City. Enjoy an easy afternoon and a glass of wine in one of our common areas by the fireplace. If you’re used to sleeping in a king-size bed (like we are), rooms with a king-size bed are few at the Red Tree House. The staff (we remember Victor and Alejandro) are super helpful with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. You’re also served a delicious hot plate, perhaps cheese-and-chicken quesadillas one morning and a cheese-and-pepper omelet with tomato sauce another.

It's a bit quirky, but it's beautiful and warm, and has the feeling of staying in a friend's home rather than a hotel. Guests enter from the tree-lined street into the cozy lobby with a small front desk at the back. There is vibrant contemporary Mexican artwork throughout, and a red glass chandelier hangs from the ceiling. One of the hotel's best features is its furnished courtyard with a jacaranda tree, many other plants and flowers, and fountains.
